Through certifications, peer recognition, print competitions, merits, and so on...a photographer can technically become a "master" of photography.

Sure, I would love to "master" my craft.
Baby steps....I'll start with the Certified Professional Photographer's exam(CPP exam).
I hope to take it next spring.
For now I try to surround myself with veterans and masters in hopes of picking up as much as I can. A great way to do this is through Professional Photographers of America. Each state also has a Professional Photographer's association. I'm currently a member of North Carolina's and Tennessee's.
